If it looks like a Persian with short hair,
it's because it is! Developed from cross-breeding Persians, with
either American or British Shorthairs, the Exotic has become a popular
breed in its own right. Exotics are friendly and easygoing, making
a great addition to any family.

Quiet
and endearing, the Exotic is a mild-tempered cat whose soft voice
is seldom heard. Sweet and affectionate lap cats, the Exotic enjoys
indoor life and becomes immediately attached to its surroundings.
Simple pleasures, like watching a water faucet drip, will keep an
Exotic amused for hours.
They make a good pet for those who like the placid nature and look of the Persian cat, but cannot cope with the long hair. However it must be pointed out that they do need daily grooming. The coat may be short, but it is very thick and plush, so the loose hair must be removed.

As
a rule, availability of the Shorthair is
via Pre-Order. This means contacting a breeder and requesting
the color, sex you prefer. The breeder will let you know when the
litter is due and what colour could be in the litter. However...it
may not be Shorthair, so you may find yourself on a waiting list for
the Shorthair.
As for the Longhair , availability chances are higher as you could purchase a Persian or Himalayan. Side by side, you cannot see a difference. Only a breeder, working a program, would care whether it is a "Exotic Longhair", "Persian" or "Himalayan".
